I replaced the top cover with a ribbed AK top cover. I also staked the extractor adjustment screw and the maximum setting. Both of these seem to help the FTE issue. My two biggest problems now are : 1) I get 1 round in about 10 or 15 that leaves the mag at too high of an angle to enter the chamber and jams the bolt when loading. Is there anyway to keep the round from pointing up as it exits the mag? 2) The hammer drops and the round doesn't fire. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries to fire one round. This happens 1 in 10 times or so. It is more irritating that the round jamming. Is my firing pin too short? |

Do you only have one mag? Maybe tape a single layer shim under the rear catch tab to see if it improves the angle with no new down stubs. Sometimes cheap brick ammo does that in any gun, but consider making sure the firing pin moves freely with no crud jams and plenty of lube. Also see if the hammer spring is set right. |
Same here, I've been using thunderbolts which run well in my Ciener AR unit, but again, every now and then I get a dud that has to be flipped over and hit on the other side. As no one is doing business today, I intend to head to the range again, I did a second dose of brake cleaner in the firing pin channel and heavily CLP'd it. As mentioned, this freed up the extractor quite nicely. I could well imagine some bit of solidified cosmoline in there slowing things down. As to the feeding issue, I'm not sure, this may well just be a break in thing. It did happen with my ciener early on but its hard to remember after 5 years and 30k rounds through that one. This WASR22 only has a few hundred rounds through it and that might not be enough for a proper break in. |
| The FTF issues seem to come from the Federal Bulk (Or my dumpster diver instincts when I pick up seemingly clean recent .22 rounds OFF GROUND and load them into mags with fresh rounds LOL...) looking at your empties and seeing how the FP strike notches look could shed light on this (Mine vary a little but mostly seem deep enough) but I'm no expert ! If I had to guess I would say Get a AK98-T 10/30 ROUND mag from SOG (i HAVE 2) and use it (They seem to work as well or better than the Plastic Cugir WASR 22 mags ... |

Looks like there is a pin keeping the firing pin in place. Has anyone knovked out the pin the clean the firing pin. There also seems to be a second pin that hold the handle on the bolt carrier or the extractor in place. I tried lightly tapping on the retaining pins, but they didn't budge. I have not tried putting the bolt carrier in a vise and using real punches yet. |

Update. I'm about 300-400 rounds into this .22. It is getting better. I'm still stripping it and cleanining it after every outing. Today has been 3 times. I took the firing pin out and ground it down ever so slightly just to try and get a little more of the tip to poke out of the hole when the hammer drops. So far, not one failure to fire after the hammer drops. Every round fires. The failure to eject issue is 95% resolved. Seems that cleaning the extractor, peening the extractor set screw in place at max tension and the AK top cover have done the trick. Every now and then one case will get caught up inside the cover and cause a problem. The only real issue left is the failure to feed. The rounds still exit the mag at too high of an angle. This leads them to get the tip of the bullet jammed just above the chamber. I did notice it seems to happen more with some bulk ammo that has loose bullets in the cases. Cheap winchester bulk hollow points. If the mags could hold the round a little tighter, then they may not aim for the sky when they exit the mag. Maybe some real feed lips would help. I was hoping it would be something like a feed ramp issue, it's not. How do those mags from SOG work on FTF issues? |
None, just shoot, patch the bore, spray the action with DuPont Teflon/Silicone lube (since blowback just does not stick to it). I have a shop project in progress, but more comments will wait until fruition or dismissal. |
| I just touched up the tapered area right behind the striking end of the pin so the pin could peek out of the hole a hair more. I can't noticed it by eye, but it seems to be enough I haven't had any more problems. If you remove the pin, you can see from the wear how far it protrudes after being struck by the hammer. |

| Finished my 30 round East German "Ribbed" magazine conversion Project into a 10/30 WASR 22 mag with Original 556 plastic cugir WASR 22 mag insert installed into EG mag ! It looks very good and is as close to SOG AKMT 22 mag fit as I can get without giving it to/ Being turned loose in a Machine Fabrication shop! Will test this week ... Hope my Romy Unissued Bayo, Mag pouch and Leather Sling arrive today so I can get my Bayo Lug ears TIG welded back on and do mods( Drill Holes and thread for set screws,Remove 14x1 RH threads) on a Spare M59/55A1 ported early series Grenade Launcher to put on as a fake Brake Hider ? |
