Yes and No...

Just depends on who you talk to. I find the fixed stocks and the side folding stocks more comfortable than the underfolders myself.

Ok. Another Question though. I have seen some guys wrap them with para chord, is there a technique to this??

Reason for these questions is I am looking at the M70 over at AIM.

Thanks again,
Carter.

Personally I found my Polish Underfolder just about as easy to shoot as my fixed stock WASR-10.  Its a rock solid Underfolder with NO wobble at all. As far as side folders go my AMD is horrible as far as geting any sort of cheek weld. I think these were used primarily as machine guns rather than selective fire rifles. The best I have been able to do it to attach one of those FSEUSA recoil pads and raising the rifle high so the stock end is not entirely "in the pocket" get a place on the pad where I can rest the side of my jaw.(if that makes any sense) I have a Romanian Sidefolder stock I bought on the cheap but I haven't put it on anything yet.

Yes, there is a technique to wrapping a sidefolder with paracord. I believe I have a copy of it with illustrations in my files. IM me your email and if I can find it I'd be happy to share it with you. I would have wrapped my sidefolder but I have yet to FIND paracord anywhere but in large quantities from Cheaper than Dirt. I haven't placed an order with them for quite a while so I haven't gotten it, can't find it locally and didn't want to pay shipping for just that.
Cheers,

Personally, I find underfolders very uncomfortable to shoot. Cheek weld is aweful to non-existant. If this is going to be your only AK, I would recommend a fixed stock AK. With that you can always add a side folder if you want to.

If you have the cash, get both.

I had to build one to add to my collection. It's Yugomanian UF:

My UF's nd I get along great.  I dont like laying my head down on the buttstock anyways.  I prefer to keep my head as upright as possible and likewise, the "ckeekweld" to me is more of a "jaw-weld" because the underfolder comes across my jaw just below the tooth line.  It fits fine and I do NOT have any paracord, shrink tube, pipe insulation, or any other padding there when I fire.  I've seen some guys place their sling around the rear of the buttstock and place it between their cheek and the stock... it seems to work.  I've tried it but didnt need it.

You have to try it and find out for yourself.

No. An AK doesn't have enough recoil for it to be bothersome.

No discomfort here. Cheek weld is fine; I just lay my cheekbone right down over the folder. It feels "funny" til you get used to it but I wouldn't call it uncomfortable.

I could see how it might suck in very cold weather ... but I live in Florida!

I dont know why the underfolders get a bad rap.  The cheek weld is good I dont notice any discomfort.  I typically shoot 2 to 3 hundred rounds with not problem. My Yugo underfolder is rock solid, although I admit I dont fold it very often. All the talk of loose underfolders has me hinky. I personally like the underfolder (Yugo) better than the fixed stock Yugo because it seems to have a slightly longer length of pull. My 2 cents.

I had a Norinco Underfolder.  It was very comfortable for me.  I had no issues.

My underfolder is fine for me, though no folding stock (underder or side) is a good as a full stock. Since the part that meets your shoulder is more curved than on a regular full stock, I think that underfolders are better suited to people that have a little more beef on their shoulder. Thinner people without as much shoulder meat probably would find it less comfortable. But still, as has been stated above, it's more  a matter of opinion and preference.

i've had a fixed stock, a romanian right side folder, and an under folder and in my opinion, left side folding krink triangle stocks are the way to go.
