I know this has been asked many times but I cannot find to much on it . Could you guys recomend some builder/ gunsmiths to put together a couple of kits I have. Like most, am looking for a high qualty build for a fairly resonable cost. Thanks. |

Most of the good builders seem to be backed up for 6 months to a year. Depending on what you have to be built, here are some. Q: Who builds AKs? AK-USA AZ Expert Arms Blackwell Industries Coyote Gulch Armory CMP Armory Investment Grade Firearms Marshall Arms Missouri Custom Armament Piece of History Firearms Red Stick Firearms Salbo Arms Looks like Sledgehammer arms is now a dead link. |

Or you could wait 10 to 14 days. I've been satisfied. Need Your Kit Built? Overland Industries |
Are you guaranteeing a 10-14 day turnaround on builds? |
When I spoke to Gary at Overland on Sat., he stated that he tries to get a 10 to 14 day turnaround. I've gotten two week turnarounds on 3 of my builds and was promised another two weeks on two builds I just dropped-off. But I'm sure things will change as business picks up. Hopefully more people will start getting their builds back and give an honest review so I don't seem like his only shill. |
dump1567, builders hate it when customers, even satisfied customers, put words in their mouths. You have good intentions with what you are doing, but the effect is to create an expectation which the person actually doing the work has no control over. |
Maybe you didn't see my response.
But feel free to call him direct and ask. Phone: 928-680-3660 |

Oh, I've gotten a turnaround on an AK-74 build from a professional builder in 10 days before, Piece of History Firearms. But that is the exception, not the rule. As soon as a builder becomes known, the finish times begin getting longer as the backlog grows. Most of these builders have other careers, like -Duke-Nukem-, which can cause delays which the builder can't help without putting in more hours than there are in a day. If you aren't the actual builder, you shouldn't be putting it out there that the guy will get builds done in 10-14 days. Let the builder himself make the promises. That way, when he gets swamped with business and the builds start taking 3-4 months or as long as a year that many have seen with certain builders then it won't all come back to pointing at this thread and you for saying he can get rifles back to owners in 2 weeks. I've heard that builders like Red Jacket may be backed up over a year to a year and a half now, others are taking no new builds for the foreseeable future. |
|
I don't recall making any promises for the builder. I'm just listing what he told me 4 days ago and my personal experiences. And I'm sure as he picks-up business, the wait time will get longer. I would hope that someone would actually talk to a builder prior to shipping their kit and not just go by what someone posted on the Internet. ![]() And Gary at Overland is retired, so hopefully no full time job should be getting in the way. But again, please call him direct with all your questions & wait time. As stated before, I'm satisfied with the quality of his work and turnaround time. But your free to choose whatever builder you like. |
thanks We can't take any work right now either. We are in the middle of getting our inventory back up after the initial posts on the EE. We won't post anything for sale that is not in hand and we don't do pre-orders. If the weapon just needs test-firing then I will let the customer know it will ship shortly. We had several customers who wanted to get put on the "list" as soon as rifles became available. I know that several of the builds just got sprayed or had to be test-fired so there was no issue letting them go. Right now we have quite a few unissued kits that are being built into Khyber Pass models and California-compliant rifles and we will be busy with that for quite some time. If we get any free time we will offer some builds but our hands are full at this time and the near future. thanks, Ron |
We have all seen that you are happy with his work, but You should let him register here and speak for himself |

Dump1567 posted: "he said he tries to get builds out in ..." There was nothing promised or missleading about this at all. It is/was no different than someone saying they are happy with a certian builder, or they are unhappy with a certian builder. He in no way promised anything. He is trying to disclose the presence of a builder he has had good luck with. As posted above, is someone going to send their kit to any builder w/o speaking to the builder first, and asking questions important to them? |
Many someones do just that. I haven't been taking new work for months now but we still get boxes of parts kits with checks for round amounts in them. The senders don't even know our build cost, they just send a note that says "let me know if you need more money when its done." I'm mailing them back at this point. We just have to get caught up on current projects first. But yeah, people will send their stuff without even emailing first. |
Yeah, fine line between starting a thread about how pleased someone is with a builder's work and pimping for the builder, whether intentionally or not. When someone asks who the good builder's are, I give a list including the best and the good at different price ranges. If I have anything more to recommend I do it in an IM. I give the good and bad about builders I know personally. Those of us that have been on the boards over the last 8-9 years have dealt with our share of the bad and timelines that are written in sand to be blown away with a change of the wind. |
I wish he would. He's read the review link I posted and has a log-on (don't recall what it is). He even mentioned that he was taking care of KYOSHI's friend who had a problem with one of his builds. I'll send him this link to see if he cares to comment. As for me, I'm done with this thread. Please refer all build questions to Overland. |

First, I would like to appologize to dump1567 for not replying to this thread promply. I merely wanted to wait until the air cleared and wanted to offer a clear and consise response to this particular thread. Since retiring I have now started on my second year career in the Sport Utility Firearm market as an ATF licensed mfg.(07) and Dlr.(01). Overland Industries currently guarantees a turn around time on AK-47/74 kit builds in 10 days or less. We also offer in a few cases "accelerated builds" in 2-3 days at incentive prices. In rare cases (like this last week) we can turn around a kit build (with all of the parts supplied) in 24 hours at an even higher incentive (on the swing and graveyard shifts). If the demand increases exponentially. we will add local expertise. Naturally, the incentive work has realistic limits however, the other kit builds in line are not affected. All work is performed in house. P.S. KYOSHI should update his post soon, I will by next week if he does not have time. |
