Someone is asking to trade this AK-47 plus 10 mags for my AR-15 (worth $750) I was wondering how much cash would have to be added to make the deal even? I don't want to rip any one off or be ripped of myself, thanks guys!! (i don't know a lot about AK's) wum 1 C.U.R. 7,62x39 on right upper on left intrac arms ,knox TN RATMIL Made in Rumania Here is the link to mine for reference http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=475970 |
| wum1 is a better rifle compared to WASR. It was imported during ban and has tumbhole stock in original configuration, to convert in "normal" stock, you need to add compliance parts. I think the fair value of this gun is about $400. The mags would be about $10-15 apiece. So, all together about $500. |

I'm sorry I can't give you a fair market value for the trade your considering. IMO as a general rule, I wouldn't trade an AR for an AK. If the AK had something about it that made it exceptional then it may be a different situation but as a personal preference, I wouldn't trade a basic AR for a basic AK. |

imho, you've gotten some pretty good estimates above for the AK. here's what I'd do if it "needed the cash": 1) Sell AR outright for $750. now you have the cash. 2) do a little research and shop around for an ak to buy that has the features you want, unless you were looking for a wum 1... trading for something you weren't looking for will leave you disappointed. |
If you need the cash, this seems like a pretty good idea, also, it may not be an AK, but a decent SKS would serve the same basic purpose. I haven't kept up with their prices lately, but a good SK used to be dirt cheap. They can also be converted to use AK mags. I had a Russian SK that was stolen several yrs ago. I had the mag conversion kit added ( cheap and easy to do) IMO, it was a really good solid rifle and as good as any lower end AK. The only draw back was no pistol grip, but that wasn't a really big deal to me. Just a thought. |
As I stated above, the WUM1 in original configuration has a thumbhole stock. For some - it is OK, but in my opinion just plain wrong for an AK. In order to replace it with standard set of furniture, you must add "compliance" US made parts. This will bring your cost way up. If gun allready has standard furniture set, good chance that no "compliance" parts were installed, so you will have to carefully look the gun over for US made parts (they will have "US" stamped on them in most cases), otherwise you will be in risk of violating the law. Also, some WUM1 were imported with a modifyed receiver (large semi-circular cuts at the rear end) to prevent "pistol grip" (or standard furniture) conversions, so if the gun still has thumbhole stock, you will need to look out for this. Other then that, it is a fair gun for the first AK. If you need money, my take on this - sell an AR. If you need money and whant an AK - do a trade (if the gun is "converted" with proper parts), but offer for the whole pakage not more then $450. All in all, WUM1 is a very good starting point for a future custom AK project, but that will cost money and I think that is not what are you looking for. |
+1 WUM is ban era Romanian.... pass..... |
I'd put an Romy SAR against a Vector anyday of the week. Seen to many Vector's with problems. |
