I have a Yugo AK and I want to modify the front to accept a picatinny rail.  My plan, since I can find nothing to replace the offending grip with a rail system, is to buy a rail and then attach it to the grip by either drilling or using some sort of adhesive.  The desired effect is to add a vertical grip to the front.

1) Can I drill the front grip without worry, so long as the hole is small?

2) Will super glue or some other powerful adhesive have the desired effect without the drilling?

Thanks in advance.

If the Yugo's longer lower hg makes it stranded by TDI, Ultimak and B&T, buy a beater set for practice, and use T-Nuts and/or backing material, in addition to being sure to allow for mag swing room when changing mags.

I know guys who have gone this route with wood and poly on other guns, but can't vouch for how hard they work their front grips or how Yugo wood grain holds up.

And if you want to be first to try Gorrilla glue and rough up the back side of the rail for glue binding...

If you really want to try 'glueing' it on (with screws also) I would use AccraGlass.  The stuff will bond anything to anything else and is stronger than most material being joined. IMHO.

A closer view of the connection...

So far it holds well.  Fired 100 rounds this past Saturday without incident.  the only problem, if you want to call it that, is that the cleaning rod will not fit inside now.  It's held together with a pair of allen screws.  The forearm grip is a bit wobbly, but nothing serious.
