Does anyone have any experience with the command arms - Fobus - TDI upper handguard rail mount? I ordered one cheap from Brownells thinking it would be a good mount for an inexpensive red dot for my sons Maadi. It looks to be a polymer and I'm wondering how stable it will be?

Ah yes, another "I just bought one of these, is it any good" post.  Asking before you buy might save you a few bucks...

Anyway, my experience is that the TDI upper mount attaches quite solidly to the gas tube (you'll likely have to shave some material to get it to go on the first time), which is a plus. Downside is, the mount will only be as secure as your gas tube is, unless you also have the TDI lower HG for the upper to lock into (that's what those little tabs at the bottom are for; they'll need to be shaved off if you're using a standard wood or AK-100 type polymer lower). Most gas tubes are pretty tight, but I had one on a converted Saiga that rattled like you wouldn't believe, even with the lever locked down and the piston inside.

Finally, even though it's high-temp polymer, I would also be cautious about damage/melting as a result of high-volume shooting. That gas tube gets hot, and the plastic is in direct contact.

I see a lot of folks with the TDI lower HGs, but very few with the upper. I suspect there's a reason for that.  At least Brownells has a good return policy; just don't go dremeling on the thing before deciding you don't like it!

Correct, have one, great if the tube has magic fit in the gun, but if the tube does not then get an Ultimak or other full rail set.
