Hi all. A friend just dropped off a MAK-90. It has mount that is attached to the top cover with a part that slips under the rear sight that is supposed to tighten the whole cover up to support a scope. Tightened up it still lacks stability. The scope is a Norinco, not sure what power. He wants/needs something more secure like a side mount. I've seen a few side mounts and want to know which to get and how does it attach to the reciever. I admit, I'm out of my league with this. I have owned a Polytec Legend, NHM-91 and a MAK-90 myself just never tried to scope one. Yes, I'm kicking myself for selling the Polytec still. Got any advice or links you care to share?

P.S. He wanted to install a folding stock too, I told him "it won't gonna happen here". I'm crazy not stupid.

TIA

Danny

Assuming yours does not have a side rail, you are in need of about $30 worth of parts (rail and rivit set) and a smith to install. Be aware that the location of the rail matters in several ways for fit/comfort so get a smith who has done this before or has another AK to view for location reference.

For parts see kvar, global, tantal, freedomoptics, etc. If you want to keep using the same scope with 1" tube, try a MTK75 siderail mount with integral rings, or one of the side to weaver rail adaptors each are about $40.
