I have an Aimpoint comp m2 I'd like to mount on my arsenal ak.  I have a MI universal rail installed.  I have found sever of the original quick release mounts for cheap, but does it ride too high?  Also considering the replacement MI top cover with the 30mm ring (ML2, I think), but am worried about beating from the gas system. Any suggestions appreciated, budget preferably under $75.  And this rifle is my go to, so it sees some rough use

If you want to keep your MI rail I would get the replacement top plate for the rail itself so that it will co witness, recoil should not cause an issue as the Aimpoints have been proven capable of standing up to much more.

If you are not worried about co witness then a cheaper 30mm ring can be used, if you can find one from the CompM that should work well and mount low.

That was supposed to be heating, not beating. Damn autocorrect.  I ended up with a QRP that I picked up for $25 on eBay, so I'll post pics when I get it together

The RS mounts are IMO the best Aimpoint 30mm mount. MI's side rail mount is good too, not windage adjustable, but will give a decent co-witness, nonetheless. Unfortunately they are more than $75, and mount on the rifle's side rail.. For a "go to" rifle I'd prefer QD on the optic in case it is damaged and you need it off in a hurry. The QRP might be a little on the high side. I'd probably use a single wide 30mm  low QD ring if I were using the MI Universal mount and wanted my optic out on the HG.
