The SGL31 is my bump in the night rifle and in the future when money becomes less of an issue I'd like to put an aimpoint onto it. What do you guys suggest the krebs rear sight picatinny top rail or the RS side mount? Now I'm not humping this through the jungles of Bangladesh so weight isn't really a concern. Though I'm torn between the two the RS which seems clean and easy (cheaper by a mile) Though the krebs offers more adaptability say I magically come into possession of an M4s I'd be able to stick it on top. advise me oh wise ones and I shall ponder this on the tree of woe

I own both the RS mount and the Krebs rail.  Very satisfied with both and have no regrets purchasing either one of them.

The RS mount only does one thing but it does it very well.  It mounts a 30mm optic low and centered over the bore.  Depending on the optic, you may or may not have a usable co-witness with this mount.  It is well designed and the quality is very high.  A rock solid and very lightweight 30mm mount.

The Krebs rail offers a significant amount of rail estate to mount a variety of optics.  It also has what I consider to be the best AK rear sight in the business, bar none.  The rail itself is adjustable for windage and elevation, a nice touch.  Without a doubt the best designed and highest quality Beryl-type rail on the market (fact, not opinion here).  I know of no optics that will co-witness on the Krebs rail.

If all you want to do is simply and reliably mount a 30mm optic on an AK, save some money and get the RS mount.

If you want an truly excellent rear sight and future flexibility with a variety of optics, pony up to the Krebs.  It costs some money, but the design and quality will be something you'll appreciate long after the sticker shock wears off.

My 2 cents on the matter.

I own the RS products rail and just posted a youtube review in this sub forum. Also look at the texas weapon systems dog leg rail. Around the same price as the RS sidemount but ALOT less than the Kreb's rail. I'm going to get one for my draco soon.

Get the RS mount. You'll be glad you did.

We have another option here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_4_96/135342_AK_47_74_Combat_Rail_System___New_version_of_the_VFR_AK_.html

The VFR-AK is one of the best options for mounting optics on an AK, in my biased opinion.

However, having said that, I just recently used a Krebs rifle with the Krebs rail/rear sight. The Krebs system is REALLY well built and everything is smooth, nicely finished, and fit is perfect. The rear sight is very nice and a huge improvement for AKs. The rail is very solid and does not move at all. After disassembly, everything returns to where it started. The Krebs system may be more expensive than others, but once you look at one, you will see that you are getting the quality you are paying for. If I was purchasing this style of top rail for an AK, it would be nothing other than Krebs. In fact, if someone told me today that I was going to war and had to take an AK, I would be on the phone with Krebs ordering one of their rifles immediately. I will be posting a review soon.
