Solid enough for a Red dot ?
I can't make up my mind, between it and a UltiMAK.

Both work well. The ultimak gets hotter but you can cowittness with it. The MI comes with an upper and lower HG so you can also attach  a VFG or light.

I have one on my SGL-21. Works great, easy to install/uninstall, no play at all when properly installed. You cannot cowitness with it and it's a touch heavy (compared to a wooden foregrip). The only other complaint I have, and it's minor, is that the rounded bottom grip does not swell to cover the receiver edges. If you were rolling around in the mud or sand, debris could get into your receiver. Since mine's a range/home defense gun, I really don't see that coming up.

Just make sure you actually use the blue loctite that it comes with in installing, mine kinda came loose and flopped around on my saiga yesterday.  I like the product a lot.

Is working well so far, installs solid.  But haven't got a chance to really beat it up yet....

This guy has a pictorial on installing the rail from MI.  It's on a Draco, but should be the same.

I read on a review somewhere that these rails are not standard Picatinny rails and there will be issues with mounting some accessories.  Can anyone who owns these confirm or deny this?

The bottom rail on my MI handguards were VERY tight when installing a magpul AFG. It seems like the rails are just slightly oversized, but not enough to interfere with most accessories.

I have been curious myself how it stacks up against the ultimak setup, which i have on my 47, so i went ahead and ordered the MI rail for my 74.
I dont like the fact that it will not allow cowitnessing, but its a fraction of the price of the full ultimak set and seems like it allows you to stick all sorts of shit to it. Hopefully the out of spec rail issue if read about isnt that much of a factor.
I should have it early next week.

I have the first example of the Saiga model they made.  The rails are over spec, but MI has offered to replace it for me.  They said there was a batch that had too much anodizing or some such.

Got the MI rail and installed it last week.
For the money its pretty nice. Its definitely solid, installation is easy. It clamps to the barrel. The rails dont appear to be out of spec. Ive stuck various red dots, grips, lights to it just to test and had no issues. A minor bitch is that it requires somewhere in the range of ten screws to get everything mounted, which could potentially mean more shit to lose if they rattle out. Nothing loctite, which is supplied, can not fix.
There are 3 things i do not like about it :
1. No co-witness for red dots, the 12 oclock rails is too high
2. Can not mount cleaning rod underneath the barrel, the mounting bracket thing inside the rail blocks it
3. Its not an ultimak.
Other than that, its pretty decent.

I want to put this on my Tantal and put a SPARC red dot on it, will it hold zero well? should I spend the money?

Put a Midwest with a Burris Fastfire on mine.  Works really well.  Has held zero through 3-400 rounds so far.
