Well, I just ordered my first scope for my AK a few minutes ago, from Kalinka Optics. It was the POSP 6x42 with Black Finish, 1000 Meter Rangefinder AK Version.

Any opinions on this scope? Actually, I realized that this will be the first scoped I've ever bought period. Any tips or hints?

I have the 4-24 and it's a keeper really a great scope. Kalinka is a great company to buy from. You can download the Manual in PDF form for the POSP scopes at their Web.site. I highly recommend getting a copy.

The website says this "It includes extended distance inverted chevrons providing aiming points for 1000, 1100, and 1200 meters. Since the range calibrations for both the AK and SVD versions on both the 1000 meter Dragunov and 400 meter Simonov models are measured in equal amounts of MOA, all versions of the POSP can be used effectively with any caliber of weapon." and I couldn't understand what they were trying to say, so I just ordered a 4x24 with the 400m reticle for my Saiga.  I can't imagine shooting it at long distances.

But I think you'll be happy with your scope.  I got mine in last week but I haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet. You will need to pick up some batteries if you didn't order any, because the illuminated reticle is fun to play with.

Canoer you reminded me that I forgot a couple things:
I also purchased 2 2packs of batteries and a green bulb, to supplement the red one.

Shooter474, I already downloaded the manual, but thanks for the tip

Mine came with the plain German reticle not the one shown on their Web.page. It was not a big deal to me I like having less to look through.

I had that exact scope but sold it.  I liked it fine, but no longer had a use for it.  Like all POSPs, it's rugged and has good glass.  Nice choice overall.

...I recently put the same scope on my RPK......it makes it a fine 500yd plinker party gun.....and even though the download manual is in english...it can be challenging to get full comprehension on setting the reticle hash marks according to design....

I have the same scope on my PSL. Very happy with it, although I havent shot it in low light conditions yet.

I have the 4-8x, and feel for the 6x options, the 42 is worth the bulk over the 24 for the extra light gathering. You won't see the reticle in daylight, but it's right handy in low light.
