I've got an AK class coming up this month and I've got NO WAY to mount my light to my Yugo underfolder. A portion of the class will be at night and I need something.

Any suggestions? a DIY would be great!

  • couple of questions. first being are you running an ultimak rail?

  • if yes, just get a 1 inch light mount (kz, dd, gg&g, vltor, etc) and mount it up

    if no

  • do you love your wood? ie is this a safe queen?

  • this option would require you to "ruin your wood" by adding a small rail to it. posting while looking for reference picture. i have one, just gotta find it.

eta: looks like the one with the wood setup got deleted. here's what i had done to my saiga prior to going to a complete ultimak setup. i got the rail off amazon, and there are several other sizes available. all you need is the rail, and a 30mm scope ring.

ah thank you. Nope no rail yet but I see how I can do this now. It's a century yugo so it has that crappy plastic on it. I don't mind drilling holes

Surefire makes a M14 mount (part # not for the gun) that can go on either the bbl or gas tube.
    Or drill away :)

Note how the front sling point may matter....

I had one of those on mine...worked nicely.... SF 6P w/ an LED 240 lumen drop in

    Thanks for the pic.
While most go for the left thumb tip to hit the button and try to work around the sling front (or go with a rear-only sling attachment), can I assume you use a left index finger knuckle?

PS- While the light purists sugest getting the light up front to minimize the bbl shadow on any gun, I find nothing good happens to groups with weight in front of a gas block on any gun. Make the pic's fwd loc just right for an AK imho.

    RS:

Yep I'd just hit it w/ my left index finger or the knuckle of it.  I just kept the light over there cuz thats how I set up my AR's when I use a VFG and can hit the light w/ my thumb then.  So I just wanted to keep the familiarity of having the weight and light come from the strong side of the rifle.

The best option I've discovered is using an Ultimak rail with a VLTOR offset mount for the light, a la:
