The sight leaf on your ak has numbers on it, each indicating meters in hundreds with odds on the right and evens on the left.  The battle site setting is the lowest horizontal line on the left side of the leaf.  On russian made rifles the battle sight setting is marked "II"  while chinese generally are marked D.  Romanian and other eastern bloc countries have a p with the exception of the polish one thats marked with an s.  All battle sight means is that when the leaf is set at that position the round can be expected to hit a man sized object at 350 meters.  thats the leaf in a nutshell!!
