Any idea how to resolve the problem of a side scope mount that is off by this much?

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/Epic_Ed/IMG_4865.jpg

And in case it's not obvious in the picture, it's not just off center, it's slightly angled from left to right as you're looking down the barrel from the trigger position (right to left in the picture).  This is my first time dealing with the side mount -- am I missing something?  Are they adjustable in some way?  Or is it just fecked?

Useful info:  it's mounted on a VEPR K; origin of mount is unknown, but it was new in a sealed package from Robinson Arms until I opened it last night.  The packaging has Russian wording on it.  Photo below:

Any suggestions?

Meh -- I figured it out.  On top of the scope rail are two adjusting screws.  I had played with these earlier but couldn't get the lower part of the mount to separate from the upper part so I could make the adjustment.  Turns out it is pinned in place by two aluminum dowels.  I had to hammer out the freakin dowels, and then it came apart allowing me to make the small adjustment to move it back in line.

Brilliant engineering -- make the screw holes adjustable, but then pin it in place so you can't adjust it at all.  Ed

And, in case anyone is interested, I found the scope mount.  It's one of these:

Russian mounts and optics at their finest.

Glad you figured it out.  Nothing is sadder than an optic mount or a scope that's off.

Well, I finally got it out to the range this weekend to try to site in the optic.  Didn't have much luck.  Now, granted, I'm pretty much a novice with sighting stuff in, but I could not get my point of impact nearly low enough.

I've mounted a Trijicon TriPower TX30 to the mount pictured above.  Am I using a mount that is simply too high?  It's lower than any other over-the-receiver mount I've seen, but I usually see red dot scope mounted on the forerail.  Is it not possible/practical to mount a red dot on an over-the-receiver mount?  I mean, I'm not even close -- 10-15 ft too high at 100 yards, and it is cranked down as low as it will go.

Suggestions?

The mount being too high has nothing to do with it shooting high. Think about it, the higher the optic the lower the bullet impacts relative to POA at closer ranges. The angle is much more important. It does not appear to be off enough to make it shoot 10-15 feet high at 100 yards, unless the barrel is really angled up from the receiver.

I would focus on the optic, make sure it's being adjusted properly. If that fails, I'd say try another optic, but I doubt a trijicon would be off that much.

Nice pic work with the lines C!

That looks pretty straight, so unless the ring is not seated level, try the AR optics section to confirm your are adjusting the Trij correctly.
