I'm not sure what I should get. I have a saiga 762x39. I can get 2 inch groups at 100 meters most days in prone. I can get a mount and 2 M.O.A red dot scope for the same price as a russian mounting side scope 4x Most of my shooting is within 100 meters but I could shoot out too 200 meters if i Wanted to. |
| Dot or 1-4x scope. Biggest issue is how mag x decreases the field of view and increases target finding time. And at about 1x, the floating dot is more forgiving of eye position than a fixed reticle. Out to 200 the holdovers are not hard to learn. But mag x target ID can be handy (deer or human ?). |
At the moment I am using it for service rifle shooting comps but thats Irons anyways. I want the scope more for plinking and maybe in the near future bush hunting of hogs |
| that's a tough requirement.... a red dot is a great target scope for range fun, but unless you go all the way to an Aimpoint, battery life could be an issue especially when stomping through the woods. game doesn't wait for you to hit the on switch. it sounds like you want low power scope with an illuminated reticle. there are a few out there like the IOR, Millett DMS-1. glad to hear you can own an AK in NZ. |

Im using an Aimpoint C3, 50k hour avg and has a 2x mag. I believe one of the guys may have the same red dot. Its still both eyes open for fast targets or turn the brightness down a little and give your self a perfect shot. cheapest price is Here |
And if you run with the front flap down, it shoots like a 1x since you do not see thru the front. Extra bonus for woods/fields light shifts (or streets/bldgs) is the dot needs no brightness change since it has the black cap for a backdrop. ![]() |
