I want to set my Lancaster up with a scope.

I can't find the thread the referenced...measure and then drill the holes...use selp-tapping screws to mount rail. Anyone know of this link or vendor/

Also, what would be a good (high res red dot for 100 yards) scope that would be compatable with the mounting rail.

I guess I then need a compatable mount?

All for $150.

I don't see that well anymore and a scope would be fun.

I'm looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks.

Check this site out Mako

Look in the Rail System and/or Rails section

Can give you ideas on different mount types and most are a lot less than $100
Plus most are just a simple remove and replace item.

As far as red dot scope go you might want to look here Midwayusa.com

I just typed red dot scope in the search engine and it brought up 156 items. You can then modify the list to price from low to high or other choices.
One thing I like is you can read customer reviews to see how they liked/disliked what they bought.
Set up search as "Any Company" and "Most Popular" to see what people buy the most of.

Good luck

I don't see how you can get the complete setup with any quality at your price range.

Kobra's are now about $250.00 as far as I know.

Maybe one of these? and one of these If you don't want to drill your receiver you could get one of the Beryl Style scope mounts.

Tantal's Instructions

I like this type of scope though I didn't purchase it from this vendor. Just my preference, not a red dot.

I like this low mount from shotplus.  Make sure you get the low one if you go with this.

To stay within the $150 price range>

Not a red dot (illuminated) scope.

I would go with this set up

Bushnell Banner Scope 1.5-4.5x 32mm    $72.99
From midwayusa.com
Leapers 5th Generation Weaver-Style Mount with 1" Tactical Rings AK-47 $18.99
From midwayusa.com

So for 91.98 plus shipping this will get you a cheap scope setup.

It is best to buy the best optics you can, same can be said on scope mounts.
But if your on a budget and don't want to spend much the buy what you can afford to buy. The above scope mount is cheap but I think it will serve the purpose. Lot of good reviews on the scope.

I've never measured. I just drill out the truniun rivet, set the rail on straight, clamp, and drill the other two holes.

Thank you...

I'm checking this info out .

Probably the Tantal screw-on rail, probably break the budge with the Kobra, and not sure which mount.

Thx again.

Oops, last question...

I see the Tantal screw-on rail has only two screws.  I thought these rails all had three.

If I'm worried about it, maybe I can drill/tap another hole?

Anyway...........

I've owned an AK that had a rail from Tantal installed. It was very secure with only the 2 screws and never caused any problems. Unless somebody is really inspecting your rifle it looks completely factory. BSW

Edited to add: Even if Tantal dosn't have the best price on an item, his customer service and knowledge  more than makes up for it.

Thx, Mak

What do you think of this?  I wish the mount was a little lower, but I'm getting tired of shopping.  Don't know zip about scopes so will rely on the Kobra name.

Thx, briansmithwins for your opinion on the Tantal rail.  I'll get one.

Went to the range today.  Yep, need scope.

Kobras are fine.  Correct for that type of gun and built like a bank vault.

Email [email protected] for better pricing than Kalinka.  He's a great guy to do business with.

Last question...

Why would I want a Weaver mount opposed to the non-Weaver, mount?

Tantal has a nice low mount that suits me, but I would like to know what is what before
I choose.

thx again...

This is one of the items I keep going back and forth, on.

http://www.tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html

the BB02 model.

bottom line...want Kobra AA red dot...low mount...screw on rail.

Not really knowing what I am doing makes it a little harder.

Again, thanks for all the imput, gents.

Do you mean the BP-02? You don't need it to mount a Kobra.

I think you are making this more complex than necessary: Get the screw on rail and a Kobra that has the rail mount built in. 2 parts instead of 3.

I think the BP-02 accepts Picatinny or Weaver accessories. You can email Tantal for a double check on that, he will know for sure. BSW

My mistake....yes, a BP02.

Agree that screw-on rail and scope/mount combo is best route to go.  It is just a learning curve, thing.

I e-mailed Tantal for his advice, as well.

I find the Kobra for $260 to $209.  Quite a split.

Now, to go eat.

Have a good day.

There were different models of the Kobra also, some are newer type.

By getting one that uses a Weaver mount it makes it so you can also use the Kobra on other platforms such as the AR or mount other optics on the AK in the future.
