Does anyone know of a thumb actuated left side selector switch for AKs?  Something maybe like the Galil has or some kind of aftermarket kit to ad a selector switch to the left side of the weapon so my right thumb can actuate it without coming off the firing position.

I have always wanted to do that to my SAM5.

I did that (added a Galil safety) to my Arsenal SLR106FR. When I say I, I mean I paid my gunsmith to do it.

I can take some more detailed pictures later tonight. You can just see the left side selector under the sling. BSW

brian I'm not surprised you of all people found a way to get this done

I enjoyed reading your innovative post on the PB-02 over the bore mounting and I'm looking forward to seeing better pictures of the thumb safety selector.

Thanks Brian.  That is just what I'm looking at.  If you get a chance I would love to see a little better picture.  How intensive was it for your smith to install it and where did you score the Galil selector?

I have never seen one of these safety systems in person.  When you change positions on the left side thumb selector, does it move the right side selector/dust cover?  It seems like it would take considerable force to actuate if that were the case.  Just curious, as I've mulled over various ways in which I could imagine it working.

I've shot a Galil before and it didn't take any force to actuate the thumb safety level. It was easy and comfortable.

Hope that helps...

Yes, both levers move together. They are connected by a roll pin.

Effort is more than an AR selector, but it isn't difficult by any means. The right side safety controls the tension and is adjustable by bending. BSW

Thank you, I figured that's how it worked.  It's moot for me since I'm a lefty, but it's just been one of those things I've wondered about.

That is great Brian. Thanks a lot for the detailed photos.   That will make it a lot easier to find a gunsmith to do the work.
