I just bought a Saiga in .223 (here in CT, that's the best we can get) and was wondering how you would modify 5.45 mags for these. I've heard that only the East German ones are modifyable to work with the 5.56...is this true? If not, would I be able to modify the AIM suplus 12 mags for $36? Thanks all.

If you look at Robarm follower you will know exactly what to do with your 74 mag follower. It is pretty simple to glue on two flat pieces to the rear end of the follower to raise the angle. Works well. I don't know how people are using the orlite mags in Saiga. The angle is definately not right. They must know something I don't. |

There's a bit of voodoo in not just the follower but the possibility of filing under the front 1/3 of the feed lips, and minor variations in mag catch heights, never mind feed ramps in the gun. When in doubt buy bits from Dinzag in the S-12 forum. PS- if mags are in the 'wrong color' then bedliner paint works well and most vary the pebbling by the spray distance; also see conversion info in our Russian section |

I used Bulgarian Waffles, filed down a few bits & used Quicksteel to build up a small feed ramp on the mag at the front or you can fit a bullet guide.( KA-VAR), i found the 5.45 mags were too curved to feed right, gonna try GALIL Mags next & spot weld the little ramp on. good luck. |
