I have probably a stupid question can a magazine pouch specificly the East German standard AK-74 type according to the guide, the one with the pistol magazine pouch on the side be machine washed?, if so what setting?....  Also whats the strap on the inside for?....

It's this one:

I would use cold water so it will not shrink and then air dry it.

Standard AK74 load out for E. German AK-74 was 4 mags. 1 in rifle, 3 in pouch. The 4th pocket was used to hold 15 rd. 5.45 stripper clips, with stripper clip guide. The strap is either for holding the clips in, or to hold the guide, or both. (I asked this over a year ago and basically copied the response I got from memory; that is why the specific use for the strap is a little vague. Can't remember exactly what is was for.)

I got 3 really dirty ones. I told my wife to wash them for me, and she did but they basically laughed at the washing machine. Maybe a little of the black tar like grease stains came out, but very little. break cleaner brought it out, but was too labor intensive for too little outcome. If you can get them dry cleaned, it might work. I know they use some kind of cleaning solution but have no idea what it is.

Good luck, if you find a way to do it, please PM me.

This was my guess.
