Are AK mags subject to the same sensitivies as AR mags?  For example, in AR-land, USA mags are known to be very unreliable.  Do AKs have similar issues with certain constructions of mags, or are most mags reliable?

If it needs to be put in context, I just ordered a VEPR K from Robinson Arms, and I need to know what to look for when I go mag shopping.  Also, I read something about single stack mags.  Will that be an issue with the VEPR?

Thanks for your help and patience.  This is my very first AK.

Single stack AKs have a narrower mag well, to accept 10 rnd only mags. Feed lip differences may also exist in the guns. As long as you buy a hicap AK, like VEPR, any mag over 10rnds should run just fine. AR caliber AKs are mainly a matter of matching mag to gun models due to feed angle concerns.

If you prefer plastic to metal, I recommend KVAR for Bulgy waffles.

PS-which caliber?

Hi cap mags for the 7.62x39 AK are in abundance and there are tons of good mags for that purpose.

Like the other poster said the bulgarian polymer waffle mags rule.

I have never had a problem with any ex-military magazine. Either AK-47,74 or in 5,56mm type magazine.

I have never used a "USA" brand AK mag, and I dont really trust them so I dont plan on buying one anyhow.

Any magazine that is made by USA, throw it down and run..  Run away from it just as fast as you can!  They are pure crap.  I picked up 3 or 4 of them a couple of years back for my SKS for $20.00 each at a gun show.  Luckily, I had dealt with the dealer several times and he gave me credit for the mags back.  I like the Bulgarian poly mags too.
