I emailed MagPul today asking if they had any plans to come out with an AK47/AKM or AK74 compatible Pmag, there response was:

"Thank you for your inquiry.  We´re always looking for ways to improve upon
existing products and explore the boundaries of new ideas, but are not releasing
any information on projects that may or may not be in the works.  Please keep an
eye on our website for news and updates:"

I certainly hope that they are working on it, they would be the one US company that could make an AK style mag that would be comparable in quality to a commie made one! And with the AK74 mag prices at $25 and up, a $15-$20 5.45 Pmag would sell very well

The response I got from them last year was the fact they were trying to have a proprietary polymer that was strong enough for AK mags.

If they have metal lining and locking lugs then i would be down with magpul making mags, if not than i could care less about them.  I think that they would sell fairly well regardless just because all the AR owners who own that one AK will buy them based on their reputation with AR's, but i think the die hard AK enthusiast will be harder to convert without metal lining.

I wonder why companies try to reinvent the wheel when it comes to these type of things. A good straight forward copy of the eastern block polymer mag is all that is needed If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

It might be the case that a direct copy would be prohibitively expensive.

I'd rather have a Lancer AWM AK magazine, myself.

I can't imagine them putting any metal in them.

As such, they'd be about as good as Tapco mags.

The US Palm AK30 has a steel reinforcement built into it. Cost about $30.00 They even make a couple of different colors.

At $30 you might as well buy the current comblock AK74 mags. At least they can be taken apart and cleaned, and they US Palms are not available in 5.45.

No need to disassemble them. You can easily clean them as is. The spring is heat treated stainless steel and will outlive the mag body.

Yeah...that's what they tell me

I'd still rather be able to take them apart.

Yeah, I think this is going to be a problem for them. All of their gear is polymer and if they want a mag that is reliable and strong for an AK then they are going to have to add steel reinforcement like the Circle 10/21 mags.

They already exist from Tapco. You just want them to say Magpul on them, no?

Why spend the money to build an item that competes against plentiful, $9.00, bomb-proof, steel commie mags?

If you want a polymer AK mag, buy the Bulgarian Circle 10s.  They cost twice as much, (or more), than the steel commie mags, but are just as dead nuts reliable.

Anyone who pays $30 for an AK mag, is out of their friggin' mind.

If you are an AK-74 owner and you don't want Promag/Tapco mags then your only option right now is pretty much $30+.  Feel free to look around on Gunbroker or on google shopping.  You might catch a lucky deal on EE but otherwise you're stuck.

If you could point me in the direction of a place that sells Circle 10s for less than $30 I would appreciate it.

I only have 6, but will definitely buy more when I have the cash to blow. I get them from my local gun store for $35. I haven't seen them for less than $32 in quite some time.
Like you, they also fit my guns the best. Hell, my SGL21 feels like the mag well was built around them, they fit perfectly with zero wobble.

I bought one circle 10 mag a few years back.  It does nothing $20+ better than a $9.00 commie surplus mag, and I haven't bought any since.

If they're now more than $30 a pop, they're all yours.  They weren't back then.

ETA:  I'm talking about 47 mags, not 74 mags.  I don't own a 74.

It's about cutting weight. The Circle 10's weigh a good amount less than the steel surplus mags.

Btw, where you getting steel surplus for $9?

AIM Surplus has them for $10.95, right now.  They pop up from time to time in the $9-12 range.

The US Palm AK mag on their site...$28.95  Is it $18 a pop better?  I guess that's up to the individual, but I don't think so.

Yeah, AIM is the cheapest I have seen them around. The US Palm mag isn't worth $18 more, hell I don't think it's worth even the same amount. They can't be disassembled and they don't have reinforced feed lips.

They are worth less.  US Palm makes a decent grip, though.

$35 is about the norm for polymer 47 mags, and about the starting price now for 74 mags of just about any type.  once in awhile you see them for under $30 but then shipping is usually high. i hope a new batch of 74 mags come in, they were $8 around a year ago. give or take.
