Hello all...I am currently in Iraq, but I purchased an AK47 from Lancaster Arms (directly) and my father took delivery of it...the rifle came with one magazine, however it will not stay in the magazine well.  I am going home in about 10 days for a couple of weeks and want to shoot this gun.  My father took the gun to a local FFL, he tried several other magazines, some fit and stayed seated, others didn't.  My father is going to go back to him to see which ones worked well.  I just wanted to touch base with you guys and see if this is a common problem?  I understand the rifle is a US made version, but it seems that they would have at least checked the magazine sent with it to at least make sure it worked.  Anyway, I was trying to locate some online to purchase prior to arrival, hoping I would have at least a couple I could use.  If anyone has a Lancaster Arms gun...I would appreciate any help...or just general information on this subject.  Thanks in advance.

the only thing I can think of is that the mag catch may be a tad too long and the mags aren't locking in. I have a couple of steel mags for my CR that like to bind on the mag catch, I just re-seat the mag and it will go in. Your description is a bit vague though. Also Thank you for your service, and enjoy your leave!

It should not be surprising that there are small variations in the millions of AK magazines  and the millions of AKs made.
Use a fine file and take a little off the bottom of the lug on the back of the magazine which engages the catch, testing frequently and stopping as soon as the magazine locks in and the catch goes all the way forward.

I have had similar problems with my Romanian WASR-10.  I used a rubber mallet it get it to lock in and place.  I did this about a dozen times and eventually it became extremely easy to lock in place by hand.  Can't you bring magazines home with you?

Unless you just really love the magazine that came with it, I'd suggest you simply get a few more magazines and wait to see how they work before doing anything you might regret later to your new rifle.

It's common to have some magazines that fit tighter/looser than others.

This.

I've had to do it with a small number of magazines I own.  Don't modify the rifle, modify the mag.

Right now take advantage of a few romy mags from AIM, and then a few of the flat back mags from Copes, both are good prices and this gives you some different choices as stated above to test
