I got some junker magazines, and I'm fixing them up...

Some of them have rusted underneath the feed lips, but not inside the magazine.... where they weld the thick piece onto the stamped out body, underneath that. It has rusted under there.

This seems to have forced the thin body to bulge inward... thus binding the followers.

With an over-night soak in carburetor cleaner, and some tapping, I have managed to get the followers out.

What would you recommend I do to correct the issue? I am thinking just get out the dremel and grind the interior to the normal width... anything wrong with that?

I'd grind. The mags are thick enough for that.

I had a dent in the middle of a steel mag one time, and could NOT figure out how to get it out without messing something up.

I just tried it on one.... it is super smooth now... I don't think I even got to the rust... it didn't take much.

I bet you guys are feeling silly now for not jumping on the 7.50 ak mags, huh?

It's dangerous, harmful, and known to cause cancer in Kalifornia but I soaked my mags and followers in muratic acid. It can be found at hardware stores and is inexspensive. You can mix with water to dillute but I'm impatient so I used it straight. If you do this be very cautious of the fumes and spilling/splashing on yourself. The cool thing is that you can clean cement with the waste.

I will keep that in mind... I'm not sure I'm desperate enough to use that yet..... Kommiefornia can keep its cancer... I'm worried about it eating my hands off.

I'm a dumbass and never use gloves but any decent rubber/chemical/dishwashing glove should be fine. The fumes are probably the most harmful, so do it outdoors. Also the finish will be completely gone afterwards and you will have to flush with water to neutralize the acid so be ready to oil them to prevent surface rust.
