I have a bulgarian 30 round mag that has a dent about 3/4 of the way down. The follower hangs up at about 26 rounds. It is a small dent. What is the best way to straighten it out?

The best way is to salvage the parts and chuck the mag body.

If you're up for a challenge, you can try laying the mag dent side down against a hard surface. Take a prybar, or big screwdriver, or whatever will fit inside the mag, but still allow some room to work.

You basically need to massage the dented area with the toll while applying downward pressure.

Best trick I have used for dents is to cut a piece of scrap wood the inside width of the mag bottom and just tap down until the dent forms back out.

Screwdriver method runs the risk of just popping the dent to the outside if the leverage is not right.

just cut out the dent with a dremel.

the mag will work with a hole in it.

There is actually a tool for removing dents from AK mags. It's a block that's shaped like the inside of a mag. I've only ever seen them as part of a Sov armorer's kit.

Just yesterday I removed a small dent from a surplus mag by placing the mag
on it's side on top of a table and pressing the dent with a screwdriver using the
edge of the table to push it up.

The follower doesn't get stuck anymore. I was surprised how easy it was.

+1 on the screw driver trick. I got a few AK mags at a show and didn't notice some with lite dents near the top that prevented the follower from moving freely. I took a small peice of wood...say 3/8"s thick by about 3/4" by about 4" long, put inside the mag body, then took a big ass screw driver and wedged it in at the place where the dent was. Popped it out enough to do the job. Figure if I buggered it up, I was not any worse off. Worth a try.

I had one that was dented 3/4 of the way from the bottom and couldn't pry it with anything.  I found a screwdriver in my toolbox with a handle that fit snugly inside the mag body. I tapped it into the mag body with a hammer and it pushed the dent out from the inside. Mag works great now.  Find something that fits inside the mag body, or cut a piece of wood and gently tap it in.

Take a 5/8" boxend wrench.  Insert the boxend in the mag bottom until it is even with the dent.  Turn it 90° opposite the dent to push it out.  Work at it slowly turning and then releasing the pressure from turning it until you have worked the dent out.

+1

A friend salvaged more than a few "dented mags" by using a drill bit slightly larger in diameter than the dent to simply cut it out.

He tells people there former Soviet Special Forces mags. The holes were added so operators could "feel" the round count when the mag was 1/2 empty

I thought they were speed holes

A screwdriver and an appropriately sized socket as a spacer has worked for me. The results arent pretty, but the magazines work.
