A magnet will stick to the bullet of wolf 7.62X39 122gr FMJ as well as wolf 55gr .223 military classic. Know when I hold a magnet up to the 5.56 M855 - 62gr with steel penetrator the magnet will not hold but I can feel some pull.
The 7.62X39/.223 wolf has nothing about steel tip on the boxes. Why does the magnet stick to the .223 of wolf and not the 62gr 5.56? Does wolf use a mild steel in place of lead in 7.63X39?

Can't deal with it. It's probably steel jacketed, not steel core.

What exactly is the problem?

I can deal with it.  I pulled the bullet because it was set to deap into the case and then checked it

Wolf MC is made by Barnaul, and they've always used mild steel jacket with a copper plating as far as I know. Wolf Performance .223 used to be exclusively copper jacketed, but a lot of that stuff is also steel jacketed lately.

I need to make a correction: The Wolf MC is made by ULYANOVSK, not Barnaul. I had a brainfart...

The problem=People don't understand that things other than the core can be steel.
Thats why this gets posted about once a week.

Need a damn bi-metal sticky at the top of the innerweb...

None of our ammunition is steel cored, it is illegal to have any steel cored ammunition imported, and we have all our ammunition imported. All our ammunition has lead cores, and does not spark!

Probably the only reason they think this is from a magnet test which shows the magnet sticks to the bullet, not because of a steel core like assumed, but because the jacket is a copper/steel mix, (one layer of copper on top of one layer of steel), which is why it’s called a bi-metal jacket. If the magnet didn’t stick to some calibers it’s only because the jacket was all copper instead of bi-metal. We are phasing out the all copper jackets and having only bi-metal because it’s more cost efficient.

Thank you for your interest in WOLF and I hope this helps.

So no sense looking for the black/yellow box wolf with all-copper jackets for indoor ranges.

Let's try sticking this thread for a few weeks and see how it plays.

I'll make another entry in the FAQ and untack this when I'm done.

[ETA] It's in the FAQ - untacking...

How old is that statement from Wolf?  The reason I ask is, it's my understanding that all Wolf in 7.62x39 right now is either the black box or the camo Military Classic boxes, and all currently imported has the steel jacket, but recently, in a local shop I did see some of the 122gr fmj Wolf in the yellow/black boxes, and it wasn't there in the past, and the store owner thought it was new production.

Stupid me, I didn't have a magnet handy, or buy any, (it was at least $5.99/box or maybe $6.99), and I didn't open a box or look for lot numbers.

So, I guess, my question is, is this just an older case of Wolf ammo that may just have recently been opened, and has anyone ever had steel jacketed 7.62 ever show up in the yellow/black box?  I will definately go back soon to get a box, if they still have it and check myself.
