With the shortage of 7.62 ammo lately and insane prices, I find myself in a unique position.

Back in the early 90's I bought 6 or 8K rounds and stored them in my parent's basement in Ohio.  Since then, I've moved around the country and have settled in Oregon.  A couple of times my parents drove all the way out to visit me.  The first time I forgot to tell them to bring it, the second time they took the northern route through Canada so ammo was out of the question.  Now they're pushing 80 yrs old, not gonna do the drive anymore (will fly).   I'm short on ammo, but I've got a shitload at home.

I find myself in the position of shipping the ammo to myself.

Even if it costs $50/case to ship, it's still worth it, since the ammo there is doing me zero good.  It's all chinese and in original crates/cans.  Some steel core, some not.

How do I ship this stuff?  UPS??  How much do you think shipping will be?
Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Road trip.  Your parents would love to see you and you could do it in 3 days easy.  There, stay a day, back.  Then you don't have to pay for the ammo you've already paid for.

The distance from my parents home in Columbus to my home in Oregon is 2366mi.  Estimated drive time 34:40.  They are pushing 80years old each.  Do you really want to have 2 80yr olds driving on the highways is some land-yacht cadillac with that much ammo in the trunk, and trying to do that in 3 days total?

Trust me, you don't want my parents driving around with that much powder- hell, you don't really want my parents driving at all

I'm screwed and will end up paying twice for the ammo but it's doing me no good there.

How do I ship this stuff??

ahh, a couple of nites in hotels, 100 gallons of gas at 2.10/gal  sure, that's a good solution.

Or.... UPS.   Must be taken to the MAIN station in your city. Branch offices won't accept it.  Cost?  Ask them!   I am guessing 1000 rounds can be delivered for under $20.00.   2 cents per round, not bad.  UPS delivers ammo ALL THE TIME.
