Thanks for the extra info. With that info, it sounds more like the Ulyanovsk brand. They imported 5.45mm ammo before. It was 70 grains and doesn't got the airspace. The velocity of it was 2,528 fps and averaged 2.5 inch groups at 100 yds. These specs are from a magazine article. 60 grain 5.45mm averages near 2900 fps. |

aimsurplus.com/acatalog/copy_of_5_45x39.html Here's a link to Silver Bear 5.45mm, it's made by Barnaul. It's 60 grain FMJ with the airspace and is the same as lacquer coated Barnual. Just has the zinc plated cases. Wolf 5.45mm also has the airspace but I don't know who has it in stock. Accuracy is better with Barnaul 5.45mm when compared with Wolf 5.45mm. No1Here, Again thanks! Still waiting for my Arsenal SLR 105 A1 R . Arsenal said they will ship out last Friday, so I will get it later this week......hopefully. I've never fired a 5.45, but is the recoil less than 5.56? My M4 weighs in at 10+ lbs w/ all the SHTF goodies, so recoil is nil. Damn, first BRD and now this Dark side disease.

3 is the factory code for Ulyanovsk Machinery Plant and the 97 indicates year of mfg. 1997. It is loaded with a 70 grain lead core fmj bullet and was the first 5.45 ammo imported that had non corrosive primers. Ulyanovsk made the first commerical packed(25rd boxes) 5.45x39mm ammo in 1997. Barnaul 5.45x39mm ammo was imported in 1998 with a 59 grain lead core bullet. Ulyanovsk kept loading the 70 grain bullet till late in 1999 when Wolf announced the import of 5.45x39mm ammo with a 60 grain bullet with a air space in the tip like Russian military ammo. This really caused a stir in the internet shooting community and sales of the Wolf ammo was really good when it finally arrived. Sales of the Ulyanovsk ammo with the 70 grain bullet went downhill really fast so they switched to loading the same 60 grain bullet with the air space in the nose.
