Gun Show in Phoenix coming up. Any thoughts and experience with the new ammo titles? Silver Bear, Brown Bear, Red Hammer? Etc.? I suppose I should have at least some boxes with the hammer and sickle. What about that meplat on the Silver Bear 7.62? Is that wild or what? |

Silver Bear and Brown Bear ammo are made is a bunch of different plants around Russia. I have shot ammo from many of these plants, just not always under the Brown Bear name. We have sold it as well and it is cheaper (therefore sells faster) than Wolf. It all seems the same to me. Have had no complaints. The Brown Bear pistol ammo that I have shot runs great through German guns. (Germans used a lot of steel cased ammo in the war) I haven't seen the Red Hammer but have heard it is Barnaul repackaged. AS for the Silver Bear match. I wouldn't expect too much out of it. RS39 and I are going to do some "extensive scientific testing" after the new year on this ammo. Remember though, we are talking about ammo that is roughly the same price as regular fodder, and will still be shot is cheap rifles. This isn't Black Hills match from a Loaded Springfield M1A. My SAR1 enjoys the Klimosk (sp?) stuff and I see that mfg plant stamp on some Brown Bear boxes. Also likes the 1260 rnd crates of Yugo. Get a box or 2 of whatever you see, and keep some test targets. My SAR1 and Norinco have different appetites, what's 4" in one is often 6" in the other. No clue about what mix of chamber/headspace/bore makes this happen, I just know what to buy for the gun later. |

Yes, the Klim. Been shooting Uly lately. At 300 yards the Uly FMJ's were striking a bit higher than the Uly Hollow Points, as expected. Firt Klim Hollow Point I fired gave a stiffer recoil than the Uly and the round struck as high as the Uly FMJ. Anybody else perceive the Klim to be a little hotter than the Uly? |
