8m3 has very good results in ballistic testing in gel.  I ordered a case, thanks for the tip.

Apparently a slightly better expanding bullet, due to some cuts or pre-scoring of the bullet/jacket.

Big meh if you ask me, every time something goes awol in the AK world, numerous legends spring up about it, usually put forth by the guys who bought a bunch and want to neckbeard it to noobs for big profits.  I saw a guy trying to sell a case recently for $750 bucks, no telling how many guys fell for that, and here it is now for $239, lol.

Regular soft-point x39 does an outstanding job of putting meat on the table.

If this is actual 8M3, it hasn't been imported since the early 2000's. An extremely effective round for human size targets. They fragment and penetrate to the 12 inch mark.
I'm not doubting SG, but com block ammo has and does bite folks. I really hope it is what they say, it would mean we actually get some X39 that does something besides punch a pencil hole. M67 is the best we have right now, and it is getting expensive, and is corrosive. Some folks are scared of corrosive, so the new offering would be nice.

Dragyyn, sounds like you are very unfamiliar with this old, nasty .30 frag round that maybe hits  11-12" in b. Gel.

Big in 1990's and disappeared about 2002-ish. Nothing new about this true, notched jacket hollow point that shames the fake fmj-performing hp's, and some x39 overrated soft points of today that do not expand.

It flat blows shit apart, and now SGAmmo considered it important enough because of customer demand to go to manufacturer with $$$ to start the production back up. How often does that happen ?

It is awesome stuff, you are just a noob on it.

Can someone upload some tests or pictures of this mysterious 8m3 ammo. Like hunting results/ flesh wounds, gel tests, side of pork, shooting into a phone book, anything,  theres one whole test on the entire internet (the ammo channel on youtube) and no pictures anywhere W.t.f. This has got to be the most reclusive elusive ammo ever made by the hands of man. Its like a ghost. It should be included in the paranormal phenomena index up there with Sasquatch and the lock ness monster...

Nice.  I sell and shoot a lot of the regular FMJ.  Might have to try the JHP.

As a rule, I like Soft Point the best for self defense / SHTF stockpile.  Straight killer.

Possibly, but since I actually shoot animals with my rifles instead of jell-o, I reckon I know a fair bit about terminal performance. I've killed a dozen deer, numerous hogs, and few coyotes with all manner of x39, and i'll tell ya right now, plain old 124 gr. soft point works spectacularly.

That stuff is certainly not worth 75 cents a round, at SG's current price though it's roughly the same price as any other x39 so buy all you like, I won't argue against it.

What does that even mean? data point of 25?

So 40+ years of shooting, hunting, competitive shooting, re-loading, wild-catting, gunsmithing, a few hundred K rounds downrange and a couple thousand animals harvested is meaningless experience to you?

From the Ammo FAQ:

Of note, most of the "cheap” Russian JHP/JSP ammunition offers poor terminal performance. The one that seems to work is the 7.62x39mm Saspan 124 gr JHP (Ulyanovsk Machinery Plant; 8M3 bullet); from a 16” AKMS the data is:

BG: vel=2297 f/s, pen=15.0”, Max TC=10cm@18cm, RD=0.63”, RW=100.5gr"

I hope the new 8M3 ammo is as good as the original, I bought 2 cases to add to my GT stash.  I wish sgammo would find a way to bring in a comparable performing non-corrosive 5.45 SD round with lacquer case and sealing.  It's great to see proven terminal performance ammo for SD that has an affordable 1000 case price.  The Russians must make a SD bullet for the 5.45 that could be imported.

What I would REALLY like to see?

1) Gel test of this production lot. As in a December 2016 video so I know this is a current test, not a 2014 or earlier vid.

2) Comparison with current 123, 124 and 125 grain soft points. I'd even like to see US made SPs and pointed ammo like the Zombie Max.

What would it take to make the 8m3 with a jacket like gilding metal, or plate the lead core directly and swage it to shape similar to the Speer Gold Dot?

A dozen deer numerous hogs and a few coyotes, that was your original post, which was probably more truthful than your second.  .    We are discussing X39.   I really don't care what else you say that is unable to be substantiated.    As far as what a dats point  is, google it.

Also looking forward to the video.  If we could get this lacquer coated in spam cans and wood crates, perfect ammo.  If the makers of Golden Tiger could buy 8M3 bullets and make a special batch.  Probably impossible, but I can dream.

I don't have any original  8M3 to compare to. The test and video are complete except I didn't get a chronograph reading so I hope to get out this weekend and get a 5 shot velocity average. Whenever I get that done I'll add it to the video and will be done.

Yes, WASR 10/63.

A review on another forum showed the velocity in the mid 2400's IIRC. The impact was good with about a 4 inch neck. Not the best, but the finish was strong and it fragmented nicely to 13-14 inches and a nice cone of pieces. Shot from a 16 inch barrel and 30 feet I believe.

YMMV

The fragments seen in the photo below weighed, from left to right: 55.9gr 13.5gr 25.5gr 6.1gr 1.3gr 6.8gr
