I was in on my mother's farm land recently with my son and we decided to burn off a little ammo in my SGL-21.  It was wolf military classic fmj.  We were firing at a cracked homer's 5 gallon bucket placed around 50 yards out and fired off two 30 round mags with well aimed shots (no fast firing).  We went up to the bucket and I'll be dang if not more than half of the rounds keyholed.  And I mean not just on the exit side, but from the front.  Has anybody had this happen?!!  I was beginning to think that my barrel was shot out or something because I am the second owner of the Arsenal SGL.  So, I went to the range last weekend and fired Tulammo fmj at paper at 50 and 100 yards.  Nothing but clean punches through the paper that day.  What do you guys/gals think?  Could it have been slightly wrong bullet diameter?  I'm scratching my head....

Another thing that happened that night also surprised.... I had a box of red tipped tracers and we were firing at a backstop that was a heap of dirt left over from a pond my mother had dug (at about 70-80 yards).  The tracers didn't have a trace, they glowed alright but it looked like just a single spark moving at speed.  Then he fired two rounds into the pond.  Those two rounds, upon hitting the water went straight vertical into the night's sky.  I immediately stopped him and lectured him that those bullets will fall and we don't know where or what or who they might hit!

Please comment on either or both of these experiences... I am baffled!

I would compare the weight of the bullet itself with past bullets used. I know that the relation between barrel twist and bullet weight being off can cause keyholing. Another possibility, were the rounds hitting in front of the bucket and bouncing in to it? No idea about the tracers, perhaps they are old? Never fired combloc tracers either, so maybe they don't leave a perceived trail like NATO rounds. Not sure if that even makes sense, lol.
