| ok, i remember some old wise tale about teflon dipped ammo. is it possible to coat a bullet, in teflonor other performance inhancing stuff? i was thinking on dipping ammo tips in paint on another kind of rifle that were home loaded for different bullet weights. any ideas? also, my little brother thinks it would be "cool" to have some bright blue or other color tipped bullets. i thought permanant marker or spray chrome. |

| Your probably thinking of the old so call cop killer bullets or Black Talon that were suposably Teflon coated and were suppose to be able to penetrate bullet proof vest as legend has it. In fact the bullets were not coated with Teflon at all but Lubalox which is currently use on the Nosler CT rifle bullets and Winchester Silver Tip Bullets. Basically all Lubalox or Moly coating do is reduce friction. You have to fire a number of round before it coats the bore and take affect and see some slight increase in velocity and after you clean your bore you have to start the process all over again not really worth it to be honest. There is no magic potion to enhance bullet performance. The bullet itself matched to its intended use and MV determines the performance. |
