Hey gang
has anyone shot winchester or remington UMC (brass cased) ammo in their AK type rifles?
I was talking to someone who said that the chambers were intended for steel cased ammo, and that the brass cases would swell when fired and possibly cause extraction problems.

Thanks for the help.

I have two boxes of UMC and a box of PSP remington stuff, not shot it yet, but I hardly doubt it will have any extraction problems.  Brass is more elastic than steel when it is fired, brass cases tend to "shrink" back a more than steel, Brass should extract easier not harder IMO.

The brass cased stuff WILL have issues IF it is shot AFTER steel case ammo.  The steel cases do not expand the same as brass.  Therefore, there will be a slight carbon build up in the chamber.  If you then shoot brass cased ammo, the residual carbon will cause the brass to, "stick" more.  If your chamber is clean, then the brass ammo should perform well.
