I see  7.62x39 Barnaul sealed cans listed on Gun Broker for a lot less the Wolf, Bears or Tigers.

Don't see much talk about it here.
Is it a problem ammo?

Just got another AK and looking for some ammo.
Thanks for any help!

Barnaul=Brown/Silver/Golden Bear

Barnaul manufactures all the Bear ammo (I think they also produce the "Monarch" brand ammo, not certain on that one though). They just decide to market it under the arsenal name rather than the commercial brands sometimes.

Good quality stuff. I think it's slightly hotter than black box Wolf, also cleaner and slightly more accurate.

How much $$$ are you finding it for on Gunbroker? If it's much more than $0.20 a round shipped I'd just buy a case of Wolf Mil. Classic (link) or Golden Tiger (link) instead, unless you really want it in spam cans.

Very good stuff.  I've burnt through 2K of silver bear (zinc plated), and am sitting on another 8K of the stuff.  I love it, reliable and relatively accurate.

I've run quite a bit of it through my AK's with no problems.

+1

I agree, Barnaul is good stuff. WOLF only has better marketing strategies.

Actually a whole lot (i can't knowingly say most, but a lot) of the bear ammo is Ulyanovosk.   ALL of the silver bear in 7.62x39 with the 8M1 projo, and the "match" marked stuff was all Uly.

All wolf military classic is produced by Ulyanovosk as well.   The old (now regular) wolf is Tula.

Bear (and these days Wolf) are just commercial trade names to put on boxes and provide brand recognition.  Up untill about a week ago when Ulyanovosk stopped stamping its old logo onto wolf produced ammo it was pretty easy to tell them apart based on the headstamp alone.   Now more things like the packaging/labeling must be taken into account to get a positive ID.
