Hey all,

About 6 rounds into my 3 Gun match this weekend the firing pin on my Interarms built Polish WZ88 AK-74 broke. Luckily a squad mate was nice enough to loan me an AR, but I performed poorly with it (I missed my AK).

Anyway, I am planning on ordering a new East German firing pin from K-Var. In addition to the firing pin, they offer an entire bolt internals kit for about $36. What do you think, should I replace all the internals if I am doing the pin anyway?

Anyone have any experience/advice?

I bookmarked http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/boltdis.htm as my reference for how to do it, but comments from anyone that has any experience would be appreciated!

I'd say probably not necessary.

Having spare parts can't hurt "just in case".

However, the "internals" of an AK bolt are the firing pin, the extractor, extractor spring, and two round pins, one with a small cut on the end.  I'm not "up" on current prices, but $36. sounds a little high.
But, K-Var sells the good stuff, usually new, so why not.

Make sure you get the AK74 kit, the AK47 extractor is different.

I have one of those kits that goes to the range with me.

I figure since the PKM issued spares includes a extractor, firing pin, and extractor axle I might want those parts handy some day. BSW

The chances of parts breaking inside of the bolt is so rare.. perhaps you had a well used kit before it was built? Even then it's not that common for a firing pin to break..

Doesn't hurt in case you ever accidentally lose one of the retainer pins or your extractor spring goes TU.
