I don't see any thread around here asking about bore snakes, so does anyone use them?  I use them for every other gun I own, any reason not to with an AK?  Or is it because, as I'm writing this and looking at the list of bore snake calibers, I don't see any in 7.62?  I'm guessing I would use the one for .308/30-30/.30-06 etc.

7.62 is .30 cal. So yes, it's fine.

I use a bore snake as the final step in my cleaning routine to remove excess CLP from the barrel.

Boresnakes are the only way to go in my opinion.

Also when they get dirty - some hand soap and sink is all you need - let it drip dry.

Boresnake? Totally! I own one for every caliber I own. Flawless victory! It makes cleaning so much faster.

Yes, the .30 caliber is the one for your AK.

OK so the 30 cal is good for the 7.62 AK's.
What about 5.45's?  .22 cal boresnake?

Worn .223 boresnakes get a second life for the brushes in 5.45.

On a related note, a 20 gauge Boresnake works well for cleaning the inside of your AK's gas tube.

As a practice, I use a very lightly oiled boresnake on everything I shoot just before I shoot it for the first time in the day.  One could be an AKs best friend and it will fit in either the PG or some buttstocks easily. They are great for all kinds of cleaning work.

My buddy told me he's seen afghanis use shoe laces with knots tied into them as boresnakes.  On their AKs.

On a related note, the standard turban with knots tied into it is a perfect fit for the recoil-less rifle

Boresnakes work great for cleaning, but to put a layer of protection in the barrel you will need to oil it.
I know I colud oil the boresnake but that would make a mess on the next time I try to clean.
So I use the boresnake with some spray bore cleaner, then run a oiled swab through the bore followed by a few clean patches.
Then the gun is ready for short term storage.

I love them!  yep .30 caliber will work for Metric equiv. (7.62).
