I just finished putting together a G kit and everything checks out fine in the garage. With live rounds at the range the first few went fine too, everything worked safely and properly. Then within the first few rounds it started to develop a problem where the bolt didn't go all the way forward. I noticed that the extractor wasn't snapping over the rim of the case. In the build process I had disassembled the bolt and cleaned out the cosmo goop, and pushing on it with a screwdriver is seems to move just fine. So, squirt a little wd in there, work it back and forth with the screwdriver and try again. Same thing, only about every four or five rounds will it pick up and chamber all the way (with the extractor over the rim). Anyone else ever run into this before? Do I just need to smooth up the face of the extractor so it snaps over the case easier? Want to get some input before I start removing metal! Thanks! |

Sounds like headspace, but you say it's good. I learned from experience not to get to hasty in removing metal when having cycling issues. First I would remove the bolt and fcg and see if everything is sliding ok. Then add the bolt, then the fcg. If still ok but still not engaging the extractor try removing the extractor and see if it chambers all the way now. At this point I would be thinking about the extractor. Maybe you have allready done this. I would just check everything possible first. |

OK, both of you guys have mentioned headspace. So it's making me think about it more but I can't get my noggin around it causing an issue. When I put it together the bolt closed on the go gauge and didn't on the no-go gauge. I could see if the chamber was way loose that the cartridge could get 'ahead' of the bolts travel by a bit. But in this case the bolt's forward movement is being stopped by the extractor butting up against the rim of the chambered round. Also remember that from time to time it will chamber just fine, but not reliably. I'll see if I can get a picture of it. |
