what is the best way to remove the front sight assembly. is it pressed in and would heat help get it off

Yes and Yes. It is pressed on and then pined. Remove the pins and press off. It may take heat to get it to pop off.

If you have two plates that have hole in them that allows for supporting all around the FSB. Barrel slides through the plates, FSB rests on the plates, ram of press pushes on the muzzle (after adding coins on the muzzle to protect it).
