| Of all the semi-auto bolt guid rails that I've seen, some have holes pre-drilled for such things as the hammer pin or center support; while others don't. I chose the kind without because of the circular impression where the hammer pin is supposed to be to help center the hammer better. So my question is this; should I drill the holes prior to heat treating or after? |
Thanks for the reply,...drilling through after they're attached wont strain or crack the spot welds? |
You must drill after to line it up properly. Also, your worry about cracking would be true if you heat treated it wrong and the rails were too brittle.. If you temper just past blue color your good .. i.e. avoid 'blue embrittlement' complex reason why, chrome and sulfer create bad carbides at the grain boundaries when you temper between 500 and 700F on 4130, similar to 1050. this means its brittle and might crack. doubtful. |
No. Drilling through after they're attached will NOT screw up the spot welds. |
