I rebuilt a romanian AK. I dont know a lot about rebuilding but did the best I could at the time. I refinished the wood and put new blueing on outside of the metal. Now it shoots, but the bolt will stay locked back. I hit it with the palm of my hand and it goes forward. I don't have to hit it hard. Since I have put about 100 rounds through it, it will now sometimes go forward on its own like it should but it will not cock, so I have to pull it back any way. Does anyone know what its problem is and how I can fix it?

I "think" it could be from a new hammer (I "think" that's what i heard someone say). I also "think"I heard that you should just pull the handle back and let it go forward by itself and this should fix the problem.

This is not an unusual condition.  It is worse when operating the bolt by hand and the trigger is pulled back and held.  Generally when shooting it should not be a problem because the hammer stays lower because it is held by the disconnector once the gun fires and the bolt cycles.  I grind a little off the top corner of the hammer where it touches the carrier then polish it and the carrier up nice and smooth then lube it up well.  The other option is just to keep shooting it until it wears in.

Hopefully it's something as simple as it rubbing on the top cover, remove it see it it fixes the problem.

If that it the problem look for rub marks on the cover and bolt carrier and file down.
