Ok, I bit the bullet so to say and ordered 2 kits from gunthings.com today. Now, I know I have to get the FCG and a few other parts to be compliant. Now my question is if I go with the Ewbank Omega receiver the serial # will be stamped and I will have to go through a FFL. If I went with a less than 80% flat how do you go about getting a serial number, or do you just avoid this all togther? I want these rifles to be 100% legal.

All info will help this newbie. Oh and I want to have at least the Polish kit built for me. I think it is worth the investment to have that one finished right and true.

-On the 80% receiver you just use the serial number that is on the trunnion.
-On 100% receivers, they are serialized, sent to you through a FFL and has to be transfered to you.

Oh, I see now. So if I want the original # then I should go with the 80%. So I guess with the 100% then it would not be a all numbers matching rifle.

Nodak Spud Receivers

You can get a custom serial number to match your kit on the majority of their receivers.

I am unaware of any federal requirement to put a SN on a homebuilt firearm when otherwise lawfully possessed by the original builder.
BATFE suggests that you add SN for indentification if stolen.

Also, a firearm without any obvious SN will draw a LOT more (unwanted) attention than one that appears "normal".
Usually, the SN on the trunnion will visually appease an inquisitive LEO.

Good luck with your build an kudos for wanting to stay legal.

Ya, I got all messed up trying to figure out how the people were doing it with the flats. I have no problem with the FFL since my guy wont charge me any fee's "family friend". So in all actuality the people doing the builds with the flats are off the books per say. That really surprised me.

Yes, and this is part of the appeal for some .

Here comes the lawer stuff: But you still have to comply with the U.S. parts requirements, you can only build a firearm that meets your state or local laws (some states still have an AWB in place), and you need to be able to meet  the requirements of that type of firearm possession within the state (and in some cases the city) that you live in.
