Is there a template or something one can use to drill out the front of a reciever with so that the holes would already be drilled in the reiever for the front trunion?

Yes and it comes with most kits.  Use the old receiver piece as a template for the new one.

Bummer!

Plan B: Take the front trunnion and cover the sides with masking tape.  Take a pencil and rub it across the taped holes.  Peel the tape from the breech end toward the muzzle end but leave it attached to the front of the trunnion.  Slide trunnion into the new receiver and reapply the tape.  Center punch the center of the tracing holes onto the new receiver.  Drill wit a small bit to insure you are centered and open them up to the proper diameter.
