I it necessary/suggested to install a reinforcement plate for an underfolder? What are the issues with this? What can happen if one is not installed? Thanks! |

Is it necessary? No it's not. Nothing bad will happen if you don't have one. That said, they do look good and they are technically "correct" on most under and side folders. Note, the Romanians did not have one on their side folders or underfolders. The Yugoslavs and Chinese didn't either but they used 1.5mm receivers. ETA: I stand corrected, it appears that the Romanians did have the plate on their underfolders but did not have one on their side folders. |

It adds $10.00 to your build (if you are spot welding your rails in then you have the necessary tools around), it's "correct" (if your weapon is of that type), and it eliminates/reduces one of the two gripes that people seem to have with the underfolders- seeming to have extra or too much flex in the reciever while firing. Heck if you have one of the "normally" thicker receivered guns and are building them on a thinner flat I would consider spot welding a flat plate inside the rear of the receiver out of veiw to firm it up...if you were worried about it being "correct" that is. (make sure that your grip screw is long enough and that it does not interfer with the trigger's operation) I say go for it. |
| I take a large thick washer, open up the hole to fit the pistol grip retainer and place it into the receiver(inside) and spot weld it into place. It firms up the back of my rifles. The difference is noticable before the stock installed. I used plates on a couple of my builds(under and side folder) and they do seem to make a difference. I started doing the washer thing when I ran out of plates. Go for it. |
