Hey everyone, I am proud to inform you that last payday I got bit by the AK bug and decided to order one of those $109 CFS Yugo underfolder kits, which after waiting patiently for the UPS man I have finally received today! Overall, I am quite impressed with the equipment that I have received. The finish is pretty nice, despite their 50-75% estimate (I'd say it's at least 90%, with some minor surface rust). The whole damn thing came soaked in cosmoline, which I have mostly taken care of with oven cleaner, and I have been scrubbing out the barrel and cleaning off the forend furniture, which is probably the downside of this kit, as it is gouged with some Cyrillic characters, but fortunately it looks like nothing a little sanding won't fix. I've been lurking around this side of ARFCOM for a while trying to determine the best course of action for getting this thing put together. I took a look at Blackwell Industries website, and they make a fine yugo UF. I think their prices may have gone up recently, however. I could have sworn they only charged $150 for a basic build using a Greenlight receiver, and now it looks like they charge $175 and you need to provide your own receiver. From what I have read, it appears that building it myself may be a substantially cheaper option, but only if I have the equipment to do so. I don't plan on making a horde of these things; I only want this one for the time being, so I don't want to invest in a boatload of equipment (such as presses or riveting stuff). I figured I would purchase a nodakspud yugo uf receiver and have someone do it for me, since I'd really like it done right the first time, rather than dicking with it myself and possibly screwing it up. I have also heard that these yugos are capable of pretty impressive accuracy for AKs, and I'd like to be able to experience this in my own rifle. So what do you think I should do? Should I send off my parts kit to someone, or should I just bone up and build it myself? Basically I am looking for the most inexpensive path to fruition, but I'd also like my AK to be solid and capable of that above-average yugo accuracy. |

i just read the thread on the u drive screw builds, and i must say this seems to be a pretty easy to way to get it done. i guess all i would need is a center punch (to guide my drill bits) and those screws. what i need now is a build tutorial specific to the yugo underfolder. where could i acquire a basic, sort of "for dummies" guide on building aks? i would probably need something like FALARAK's guide to assembling AR lowers/uppers, as i essentially have no clue as to how the internals of the AK are arranged, what pins i need to hold this or that in place, etc. |
