Can someone point me to tutorials, if they already exist, or provide me with the information, if they do not, regarding how the stocks on an AK are affixed?  I have an old MAK90 with which I never much bothered that I am in the process of appropriating from someone who borrowed it.  I'd like to replace the hideous wood "sporter" stock and the handguards with synthetic stocks.  I'm particularly curious about how the wood portion over the gas tube component comes off; I don't want to break anything in trying to swap out these parts.  Can someone help me out?  Thanks in advance.

I hope you have already been told to change out at least 5 parts on that gun if you intend to put on a stock / pistol grip configuration to keep it legal. The stock set plus a trigger group would cover your parts count.

Yes, that goes without saying.  It will be quite the project gun by the time I'm done banging on it.
