Heck, there's probably a few G-men out there right now reading this foum, but I was wondering... say... hypothetically... Instead of 6 parts for that 922r restriction thing, what if someone built and ak with 3 us parts and then used a us made mag 3 for the other 3 parts (copes has 'em) now say a few weeks later this individual decides to try out one of those nifty 75 round chinese drums.... would this be illegal? and how illegal? also... on a side note.... who checks this stuff? from what I understand, the only time you ever have to talk to an FFL while building is for a 100% receiver no I haven't built one yet, but some friends and I have been tossing this idea around your thoughts? |

It would be illegal. Your gun would no longer be 922r compliant with a different mag. It would then only have 3 of the required US parts. How illegal? Illegal is illegal. Gun crimes can get you 10 years in a federal pen. Not sure what the actual punishment is for 922r violations though. I thought only the floorplate counted as a compliant part, but I might be wrong. |

a mag has 3 parts. US mag parts are cheap, but suck for the fact that you cant use any ol mag in your gun, gotta make sure the mag is compliant. It would be illegal, non compliant: a gun with 3 us parts and a foreign mag. Personally I abide by 922(r) and NFA laws so that I dont have to be thinking about that when i take certain guns or mags shooting. you cant predict the future, who knows what will happen tomorrow, what if the feds accidently raid my house, instead of my neighbors or whatever the hell may happen. I just feel if there was ever a warrant for my arrest or search of my house and the feds saw my guns, even if they are completley 110% legal, they would still want to confiscate and use them against me, one way or another. ATF would smoke cigars and tap the keg if they found assembled foreign guns that are banned by law (non 922r comp.). just 2 pennies. |

Boy, you really know how to make a introduction huh? How much can a thief steal from you before he violates your private property rights? How many guys can your wife fool around with before she violates her marital oath? You get the point. Or someone might ask: How many unconstitutional gun laws can they pass without violating the 2nd Amendment which they swore an oath to protect and defend before they become treasonous scumbags worthy of a rope? I doubt that anyone will ever check your rifle for compliant parts. But the US made parts are cheap and it would be stupid not to comply and avoid the possibility of fed-induced hell. We, in the "land of the free" better walk in line or else. Hell, if the rifle in non-compliance is an AK, they may call you a terrorist and send you to Camp Sticknbutt. I'd spend the time & money on the stupid US parts. I once bought a used AK from a local dealer. After awhile I realized that it was imported with a thumhole stock and someone, before I bought it, put a regular stock setup on it. After reviewing the 922(r) rules, and the year of importation, I decided to add the 5 (6 if the muzzle is threaded) compliance parts. A drop in G2 FCG (3 parts), a pistol grip and a gas piston later and I was legal again. I did a really good trigger job on her and she is better than when she started. Nobody ever looked at her to count parts, but I had everything to gain and nothing to lose outside of a few debt notes (most had Lincon's face on it anyways) in adding the parts. Replacing furniture, installing a triggergroup, changing out gas pistons, unscrewing/screwing muzzle attachments are all quite easy and cheap enough. If you get to that point, just ask here on the forum and somebody will be happy to share the "how-to". On all of mine, I add from the above list of compliant parts so I can put any mag I want in it. You guys sure make a lot of sense... I'll definately spring for the extra bits, thanks here's a couple questions far away from legality issues.... For a romanian underfolder 1. How good is the quality compared to Polish underfolders? 2. Would a polish uf-receiver work for a romanian uf? (all I can find is polish uf receivers, no romanian ones) 3. $210 romanian underfold kit or a $245 Polish underfold kit? I'd like to go as cheap as possible, but if romanian kits are pure crap, someone tell me please! |

I have not seen a Romanian underfolder in person, but I have played with the polish underfolders from dansammo.com and they are primo and worth every penny (which costs the treasury 1.6 cents to make from potmetal) of 249 delivered. Generally I think the Polish quality is better. |
