I'm in the midst of hoarding some parts for my AMD project and I'm wondering what my options are for Muzzle extenders

I know about the Tapco extender that looks like a longer version of the standard muzzle brake..

I've seen pics of a few others but I never could figure out where to get them!

Also....

lets say I'd like to have one of the stardard extenders and another style as well.

Do you have to silver solder the extension on or can it just be screwed on?

I'm in Colorado if that makes a difference.

thanks!

The extension has to be perminately attached to bring the barrel to the minimum length of 16 inches. There are several options out there for extensions, you mentioned the tapco brake. When i first built my AMD i used the original brake with the simple extension, i welded everything together, once it was done i didnt like the brake so i ordered one from a builder on another board cut off the old brake and welded the new one on. In the first pic you can see my AMD with the first brake and the second pic you see it with the new brake. The extension was ten bucks, second brake/extension was fifty bucks shipped, so its really up to you on how much you want to spend, i'm very pleased with the second route i went, i think it looks badass and it doesnt look like every other AMD out there. heres some pics. Thanks for the info!

so it has to be soldered.... thats too bad...

Guess that means I'll have to refinish it for sure..

And that also means I need to make sure I get the right muzzle brake on there the first time!

I like the second style of brake you have on there!

Where'd you get it? and do you know if there are any more?

Also...

anyone else know of any other 4" muzzle brakes for AMDs?

I saw a narrow one with 4 horizontal cuts in it near the muzzle end that looked pretty cool. But for the life of me I can't find what company or who sold them... They came in the white AFAIK

Thanks for any help

Are those wood grips?  Where'd you get them?  Did they come with the kit?

Yes they are wood, they came with the kit. I sanded them down and used tung oil to finish them. McM

They look good.  My kit came with some cheesy plastic grips.

I tried the FAC extension on the 63 and that is coming off. The brake doesn't set straight and just looks cruddy. I used the Tapco extended brake on another build and it worked great and indexed properly. Looks good too. Much better. Typical ... tried to save money and ended up spending more.

Seems like most come with those nowadays, and they are usually pretty beat up...from the several that I've seen.

Yeah my Grips are the plastic ones..

Looks like a dog chewed on the front one...

So since I decided the AMD is going to be the second build I'm going all out..

I'm having someone I found on here custom make me some wood AMD grips and a matching fixed buttstock out of birch.... It will be a short body AMD-63 with blonde Furniture.

I plan to have a nice matte black finish Done over a park and get a black ribbed rubber buttpad on the stock...

The AMD is my favorite AK EVER next to an original milled fixed stock with a 90 deg gas block.

Beat up describes them pretty well.

I have a FAC that I'm going to use for my build someday (had the ALL the parts for going on a year for this one).  I actually liked the look of it.  It doesn't index properly out of the gate, you may need to sand the back of it, but I think the better sollution is to mill the notch in it.

I like  the way it looks.  The only bad part is, if you noticed, is the EXIT hole is MUCH smaller than an original break!  You better get that baby on straight!

actually you need to drill it to the same size of hole as original
unless you like pieces of bullet coming back at you
happened to a friend with an FAC brake
