I believe I have the correct solder sight mods. It's stamped "Harris 6". It's in a flat rod, if that's the right term. However what surface prep do I need, since I have no flux?

The surface has to be CLEAN, BARE metal. No grease or oil! Also, flux is mandatory to get it to bond well. You are talking about some make of silver solder?

Yes, it is some sort of silver solder. I checked the MFG website, the specs appear to be ok, but I'm not sure what flux to use.

The flux you need is a white type of paste. I've always used Aircosil, available from welding shops. You might be able to buy a small generic type of silfloss flux from a hardware store.
