I'm building an aks folder and am wondering if anyone has pics of the rear end of the receiver with and or without the rear trunion, or does anyone know of an illustrated build site with aks74's being built, i have the front end complete but the rear trunion is making me nervous, the trigger guard is done as well, mags lock up nicely. Heres a couple of pics of my progress.  McM

Here's the best I can offer. The front latch/hole is going to be tricky to do with the trunion already installed. I used the cut, test fit, cut, test fit.... method. There is a lot of material on the left side that needs to be romoved. It is a little nerve racking. Good luck.

That's pretty cool!
I've got two kits and want to send one to someone who's an artist.  I'd like to try building the other one myself.

Please post some pics when you get the front stock latch installed.
Thanks for posting this last batch of pics!

Unless something better comes along before the end of the year I'm planning on using a Global Trades receiver for one kit.
Correct materials, heat treating and dimensions are my primary concerns.
The mag well dimples X and Y stamps and selector stamps are close enough for government work.
I can live with other stampings like manufacturer logo and stuff like that.
I hope to send that to Ted Marshall or another similarly gifted individual.

The other kit I plan to build on a 5.45 flat if someone puts one out that's 1mm, 4130 and does not have the trunion holes or a front alignment hold like the Tapco flats.
If I'm really lucky, by the time I get set up to build the second one I'll be a Class II and I'll get to put ALL the parts in!
I guess we'll see how much the State Department ITAR extortion fee is.
That will be the deal breaker.

Here are some excellent pictures from Pookie's web site:
pookieweb.dyndns.org:61129/AK101/build/sidefolder/sidefolder.htm

And here are the plans:

Lots of good info about building on this site. Bigger pictures are available for this and underfolders. I have really learned a lot by going to Pookie's site, can't give him enough credit for the work he has done to make this info available.

Well this is only my second build so far, i built an amd65 a few weeks ago, both kits i used global trades receivers, so i really cant give an honest opinion on which receivers are of better quality.  I have been reading many reports on all the rec's. and hands down everyone are using the global's. both have gone together fairly easy, the amd did have some hang ups though but they have been taking care of, i think the trigger and hammer axis holes are a tad bit high,  i had to modify the hammer face a little because it kept pushing up on the bolt/carrier and it was popping out when you charged the handle all the way to the rear, i know a lot of guys are using buffers to take care of that problem, but i didnt want to patch the problem i wanted to fix it. Also i had to grind the rails a little to get the carrier to slide freely, but with this 74 i'm building they slide real nice.  I have 5 other kits ready to be built and i will be using globals for the builds so they have my endorsement.  McM
