We always see pict's of these great builds... any nightmares out there? We have a gunshow in Richmond VA this weekend coming up and I was going to buy the parts for my first build (rivit).  I would really like to hear about builds that went bad, so I could know what to avoid and learn from other mistakes.

Thanks for the help!!

dont let your buddy weld your setup together unless you've seen proof of his work.

A big +1 on that! In my case it was a machine shop. They welded the receiver on at the rivit points, and all the welds broke at 25 rounds. I had a friend, a big time car nut restorer/rebuilder, tig weld the thing. no problems since.

now I've MIG welded my new AK74 kit together and it is working great after 100 rounds.  just dont go half assed on the welding and you'll be fine

I just finished a weld up pistol with the MIG...I second that, go all out on your welds.

Make the metal shiny, and I drilled large holes in the receiver enough to make a puddle on the trunion first then flow it to the receiver. I can definitely see where one could make a good looking weld that would not hold...

While I was at it, I bent some rod and welded a sling loop on the rear trunion.
