OK, someone mentioned that there was info, or a write-up on possibly how to do a build on a stamped receiver using a milled parts kit. Can anyone point me to this data? I just have a ton of Qs. Can you press the barrel out of the receiver stubb and then press it into a trunnion? Or are they all threaded? Can you modify the receiver stubb to act as a trunnion? Maybe weld it into a stamped rec? Can the folding buttstock parts be used on a stamped receiver? Easily? C'mon...Knowing this group, I know someone has screwed around with this and felt the pain. Fess up! |
| What I did was take the threads off the barrel with a lath and fit it to the front trunnion. I then checked head spacing and drilled for the pin that locks the barrl in place. If you still have the piece of the receiver you can have that milled on the sides to fit in the stamped receiver. I didn't have the front of the receiver. |

I picked up a milled Russian underfolder kit from Sportmansguide. I really wanted to build a real Russian AK. It arrived yesterday and....damn, what mess! Finish is near 0% on all metal except the underfolder stock, where it is actually decent. There is rust on a lot of parts and the sight ladder is missing. The wood looks like it just departed the backside of a sick dog. This will be a real challenge. This kit shuold have been sub $100. After building with the near-new AMD kits, this is a real shocker. |
